CAA Parent Advocates

Cindy LiI became a CAA Parent Advocate five years ago because I wanted better public schools for my children. Each Parent Advocate  is a limited-English proficient parent, and, over the years, we have put our focus on education, language access, and immigrant rights. We worked to promote the passage of AB 680 for multilingual school materials and AB 590 for school interpretation services, as well as the use of native languages in civil services. In 2010, we worked hard to support Proposition D so that parents like me can have a say in my children’s schools. We encouraged the SFUSD to provide translation services and have English Language Advisory Committees. Our efforts have been fruitful. As a Parent Advocate, my goal is to help immigrant parents have opportunities to be more involved in their children’s education and to train other parents to become advocates.
