Community Safety and Justice

For decades, CAA has worked on a range of community safety and justice issues.  This has included calling into question policing practices that lead to patterns of racial profiling and that have disproportionately targeted people of color.  CAA has also sought to address critical community safety issues, especially as they affect diverse communities.

Currently, CAA is assisting the family of Yik Oi Huang, an elderly woman who was assaulted in early January in the Visitacion Valley neighborhood of San Francisco.  The family reached out to CAA to provide support as they navigate the criminal justice system and media surrounding the case, and to also identify long-term solutions that address the root causes of violence.

One immediate way to help is by donating to a fund that CAA has helped establish to support the family.
