Keynote Speaker
SENATOR MEE MOUA
Minnesota State Senate, District 67
The nation’s first Hmong American elected to a state legislature, Senator Mee Moua holds the highest office of any Hmong American politician. She was born in Laos in 1969 and in 1978 moved with her family from a Thai refugee camp to the US. After growing up in public housing in Appleton, Wisconsin, she went on to earn degrees from Brown University, the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs, and the University of Minnesota Law School. First elected in 2002, she has fought to protect civil rights and to secure funding for crime victims, legal aid, domestic assault services, and early childhood education. Senator Moua’s passion, commitment, energy and drive have made her a respected leader in the Minnesota Senate and among Asian Americans nationally.
