Census Canvassing Goals Reached Ahead of Schedule

Kick-off Rally for Door-to-Door Census Canvassing Begins Tomorrow (Media Advisory)

[ March 18, 2010; 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm. ] On Thursday, March 18, over 100 community volunteers and organizers will begin knocking on doors and talking to neighbors about the 2010 Census, just as the Census forms are arriving in people’s mailboxes. Census workers urge people to be counted (San Francisco Chronicle)

At the Chinatown event, local leaders characterized filling out the 10-question form as an act of cultural pride, an opportunity to gain political power. Surrounded by posters in Chinese that read, “It’s in our hands,” speakers told the crowd that if Chinatown residents were counted correctly, their elders would receive better health care, schools would have better materials, and playgrounds would be cleaner.
