Renaming of Chinatown Library for Historian Him Mark Lai to be Considered Next Thursday

CAA Applauds Supervisors Avalos, Chiu, Chu, Mar, Maxwell, and Mirkarimi for Their Firm Commitment to Providing Language Access to City Residents (Press Release)

San Francisco, CA – Chinese for Affirmative Action (CAA) applauds Supervisors Avalos, Chiu, Maxwell, and Mirkarimi for approving $400,000 to improve citywide translation and interpretation services during yesterday’s Budget Committee meeting. Language Rights Advocates Join City Supervisors in Calling for Stronger Language Access Laws (Press Release)

City residents and community organizations are urging the San Francisco Board of Supervisors to adopt legislation which would strengthen existing City policies on language access and improve services for the City’s language minorities. Chinese for Affirmative Action and Mujeres Unidas y Activas joined Supervisors David Chiu and David Campos at City Hall this morning to ask the Rules Committee of the Board of Supervisors to pass the legislation when it’s voted on tomorrow. Local Asian American Leaders Come Together to Support Workers’ Rights (Press Release)

San Francisco, CA – Local Asian American leaders called on Senator Diane Feinstein to support critical workers’ rights legislation pending in the Senate. The legislation, known as the Employee Free Choice Act, gives workers a fair and direct path to form unions without the fear of being fired, help employees secure a contract with their employer in a reasonable period of time, and toughen penalties against corporations who violate their workers’ rights. Asian American Leaders Call on UC Regents to Halt New Admission Policy Changes Until Further Studies Are Done (Media Advisory)

Several Asian American leaders will hold a press conference tomorrow to call the Regents of the University of California to put off the approval of new policies which pose the most significant structural changes to UC freshman admission policies since the establishment of California’s Master Plan for Higher Education in 1960. Asian American leaders are calling for a hold until further studies and consultations are made, and will explain why the new proposal is a step backward, rather than forward, in advancing the interests of the people of California and the University in general and Asian Americans in particular.
